Our Training Works; Student Saves Life of Baby
In April 2022, PROSAMI nurse midwife student Monique Miandu was called to a rural maternal / infant clinic in the field in central DRC (CONGO) for a mother who was in prolonged labor with little progress. Ms. Miandu assessed that the baby was in a breech presentation. The mother was exhausted and could not push anymore. The father and the extended family were outside the clinic area, and based on prior Information from the clinic staff, they were prepared for the baby's death. The mother had experienced previous miscarriages. Ms. Miandu proceeded with the specific interventions for complex breaches.
Delivery, as she had been taught in the PROSAMI nurse midwifery school. She was able to rotate the anterior shoulder carefully and then the posterior shoulder, and with great skill and care, she safely delivered the baby. The baby began crying and had an intact airway and stable heart rate. The baby was taken to The adjacent room for continued, close observation and warming and then returned. To the mother. The mother perceived the baby had died during birth, like in some of her previous deliveries. She was awe-stricken when our nurse-midwife student, Ms. Miandu, returned the crying baby to the Mothers arms. The father and all immediate family rejoiced when Ms. Miandu told them that the baby was alive and well and the mother's postpartum status Was stable. Indeed, a miracle with the saving of infant life by our amazing PROSAMI nurse
Midwife student. On behalf of the global maternal / infant health care community AND on behalf of PROSAMI, Thank you, Monique Miandu.
